Thin Film Solutions Ltd was founded in 2002 by Des Gibson. The company provides consulting services in the field of thin films and sensing, often collaborating on commercializing research from the University of the West of Scotland (UWS). TFS Ltd focuses on plasma based deposition of optical thin films based on physical (sputtering and electron beam) and chemical vapor deposition technologies. 

 

Professor Des Gibson is an expert in thin-film and sensor technology, currently serving as Director of the Institute of Thin Films, Sensors & Imaging (ITFSI) at the University of the West of Scotland.

• Academic Leadership: Founded the Institute of Thin Films, Sensors & Imaging (ITFSI) at UWS in 2014, which focuses on industrial applications of thin-film technologies.

• Entrepreneurial Background: Co-founder of Applied Multilayers Ltd and Gas Sensing Solutions (GSS), with extensive experience in moving research from laboratory to market.

• Awards: Fellow of The Institute of Physics (FInstP), Institute of Engineering & Technology (FIET), Optical Society (FOptica) for contributions to optical coatings, sensor technologies and meical devices. 

He is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Glasgow's School of Physics & Astronomy.
